What is an ECM?

An ECM is an Electronically Commutated Motor

EC motors have electronic commutation systems, rather than mechanical commutators and brushes.  These motors provide higher efficiency, have less susceptibility to mechanical wear, generate less noise, and have full variable speed.

In a recent case study at a large hotel chain – EC motors were installed in guest rooms A/C units, replacing the standard PSC motors, and results were documented over several months.  kW/Hr reduction was found to be 700.80 kW/Hr, efficiencies exceeded 78%, and annualized energy savings found were over $109 per room- exclusive of utility rebates. In addition the payback was less than twelve months.
